Have the seller... cut off the bottom of the tree and trim any unwanted branches. Put the tree in a stand and add water as soon as possible (always keep water in basin).

Be sure to place tree exactly where you want it, because once it is up, moving it can be a disaster. If you must move a tree already in water, try sliding a piece of cardboard under the stand and pull the cardboard (while balancing the tree) in the direction you wish to move it.

  • Always put the lights on the tree before the ornaments.

  • Never hang ornaments from lights or their wiring.

  • Use extension cords that have multiple sockets at the top, middle and bottom so you can plug in at the proper level.

When putting light strands on the tree, plug the lights in every five minutes to be sure lights are working and to check your progress.

Start at the TOP of the tree and work your way down. You'll undoubtedly have more patience with the higher level in the beginning than when finishing. Note: Light manufacturers estimate the following amounts of lights for tree sizes: 3' - 100 mini lights; 5' - 300 lights; 7' - 600 lights.

  • Use a timer to turn the lights on and off automatically. Nothing lets you enjoy your lights more than a timer.

  • If you will be gone, or will not be using the lights for an extended period, unplug all strands and extension cords.

  • Windows - Lights can be attached with support lamps (plastic tubes with double-sided tape), light clips (plastic clips with double-sided tape), or suction cup hooks.

  • Railings and Mantels - Try garland with lights and ornaments.
